Gerichtsvollzieher letter received — Selbstauskunft and next steps
Last updated: 2026-09-04
A Gerichtsvollzieher letter (bailiff letter) is one of the more alarming pieces of post. It may concern a summons to give an asset disclosure (Vermögensauskunft), ongoing enforcement, or already relate to the Schuldnerverzeichnis. Not every letter means a register entry yet — but the link is more common than with a plain Inkasso letter.
This guide helps you check what to keep, how to get your Selbstauskunft, and when early deletion starts.
Not legal advice: We will not tell you how to respond to a summons or whether you must give an asset disclosure. For duties and deadlines: debt counselling or a lawyer.
What a Gerichtsvollzieher letter can mean
- Summons / request for asset disclosure
- Notes on ongoing enforcement
- Communication around a Schuldnerverzeichnis entry
- Other enforcement-related letters
Keep sender, case numbers, dates, and deadlines. Do not confuse bailiff letters with a normal Inkasso letter — see also the Inkasso guide.
Why the Selbstauskunft is the clear next check
If you need to know whether a Schuldnerverzeichnis entry already exists (and which ZenVG case numbers apply), the Selbstauskunft is the direct path — nationwide via vollstreckungsportal.de.
Full walkthrough (registration, eID or postal PIN, fields to note):
→ How to get your Schuldnerverzeichnis Selbstauskunft
Short version:
- Start Registrierung Auskunft on the portal.
- Use Online-Ausweis (eID) or wait for the PIN by post.
- Access reason: information about your own entries.
- Save the result and note ZenVG + Aktenzeichen.
- If there are hits: plan deletion; if none: the register is clear for now.
Official orientation (Berlin): Service Berlin — Selbstauskunft.
If an entry already exists
Paying or “done” often does not remove the entry by itself. Early deletion usually needs an application to the responsible ZenVG plus evidence (often a clear creditor confirmation of full settlement).

FAQ
Must I answer the bailiff before getting a Selbstauskunft?
Deadlines in the letter come first relative to our product path. If unsure: get advice. The Selbstauskunft clarifies the register, not every duty in the letter.
Is the bailiff letter enough instead of a Selbstauskunft?
For clarity on all entries and the right case numbers: no. The letter is a signal; the Selbstauskunft is the source.
I already gave the Vermögensauskunft — do I still need the extract?
Yes, if you want to know whether and which register entries exist.
