Remove a Schuldnerverzeichnis entry: early deletion step by step

Last updated: 2026-09-04

Paying the debt does not, by itself, remove your entry from the Schuldnerverzeichnis. Without an application, the entry usually stays for about three years. If you want it removed sooner, you apply for early deletion (vorzeitige Löschung) at the responsible Central Enforcement Court (ZenVG).

This guide covers the administrative path in plain language: steps, documents, common mistakes — and when you should talk to debt counselling or a lawyer instead. SchuldnerClear assembles paperwork; we do not give legal advice and we do not guarantee deletion. Courts decide outcomes.

Schuldnerverzeichnis and SCHUFA are not the same

The Schuldnerverzeichnis is the joint debtor register of the German states (access via vollstreckungsportal.de). SCHUFA and other credit agencies are separate systems. Deleting a register entry does not mean every agency updates on the same day. Handle the register application first; credit-agency follow-up is a separate step.

When is early deletion possible?

Under § 882e (3) ZPO, the ZenVG can delete an entry before the three-year period ends — including when full satisfaction of the creditor is proven. That is the most common practical path, and the path SchuldnerClear can prepare a submission pack for.

Other legal grounds exist (for example, the reason for the entry no longer applies, or a court lifts the entry order). Those sit outside our automated V1 pack. For disputed claims, limitation (Verjährung), or procedural errors: debt counselling or a lawyer — not our form workflow.

Paying does not delete the entry — the application (with the right evidence) does.

Step by step: how to apply

  1. Obtain your Selbstauskunft

First confirm that entries exist and note ZenVG, case numbers (Aktenzeichen), and other portal fields. Without them you are guessing on the form. See how to get your Selbstauskunft or go directly to vollstreckungsportal.de.

  2. Check each entry: is the claim fully paid?

One entry usually means one application. Confirm that interest and costs are settled too — not only the “principal.”

  3. Get an Erledigungsbestätigung if you do not have one

Courts typically expect a clear written statement from the creditor (or their representative) that the claim underlying the entry is fully satisfied. Vague wording (“matter closed,” “principal settled”) often triggers follow-up questions. Instalment plans or a mere “we agree to deletion” are usually not enough under Berlin service guidance. Deep dive: Erledigungsbestätigung — what courts expect.

  4. Identify the responsible ZenVG

That is the Central Enforcement Court for the federal state of the entry — not necessarily the local Amtsgericht near your address. Berlin: ZenVG Mitte (Amtsgericht Mitte). Brandenburg: ZenVG Nauen. Forms and contacts: Vollstreckungsportal — early deletion.

  5. Complete the application and attach evidence

Use the ZenVG form or an informal written request if the court allows it. Attach the required proof. File separately for each entry.

  6. Submit by post or Mein Justizpostfach

Sign where required. You can post to the ZenVG or — with BundID and Online-Ausweis — file electronically via Mein Justizpostfach. Both are valid paths.

  7. Allow processing time

Weeks to months is realistic. The court may ask for more documents. Deletion is not guaranteed, even when your file looks complete.

Document checklist

Typical for the “fully paid” path (always verify against your ZenVG form/Merkblatt):

  • Application for early deletion (court form or informal request, depending on the court)
  • Written Erledigungsbestätigung from the creditor confirming full satisfaction
  • Case / procedure numbers as required by the court
  • ID copy if required
  • Other exhibits only when your case and the Merkblatt require them

Official orientation for Berlin: Service Berlin — early deletion. For Brandenburg: ZenVG Nauen Merkblatt and addresses via the enforcement portal.

Common mistakes — and how to avoid them

  • Vague creditor confirmation — ask for wording that clearly states full satisfaction (including ancillary amounts where relevant).
  • Wrong court — file with the ZenVG for the state of the entry, not a random nearby Amtsgericht.
  • Bank statement / receipt only — often insufficient without a creditor statement.
  • Several entries in one application — portals and courts usually expect one application per entry.
  • Typos in case numbers — cross-check the Selbstauskunft before sending.

Lawyer or DIY?

PathWhen it fitsRough cost
DIY (administrative)Claim clearly fully paid, evidence in hand, no disputeCourt fee for the application often none (possible delivery costs) — per Berlin service notes; no lawyer
Lawyer / counsellingDispute, unclear law, other deletion grounds, rejection raising legal issuesOften several hundred euros per matter

SchuldnerClear sits in between as document assembly: filled application and filing materials for supported courts (today ZenVG Mitte and ZenVG Nauen) when your details and the paid-in-full path fit — €29 per entry, with a 48-hour refund if we cannot deliver the pack. That is not a lawyer and not legal advice. Fuller comparison: Lawyer or DIY?.

After deletion

When the ZenVG deletes the entry, you usually receive notice and the portal view updates. Credit agencies may have their own timelines — that is not the same application. Set expectations: register first, scores and agency files later.

FAQ

Is the entry deleted automatically once I pay?
No. Without an early-deletion application, the usual three-year retention from the entry order applies.

How long does early deletion take?
Often weeks to months. The court controls the timeline and may request more documents.

What does the court charge?
Berlin’s service page currently lists no fee (possible delivery costs). Confirm current details with your ZenVG.

Do I need a lawyer?
Not necessarily for a clear, fully paid administrative application. For disputes or complex grounds: get qualified help.

Is a bank statement enough?
Usually not alone. What matters is typically a clear creditor confirmation of full satisfaction.

Short version: three next steps

  1. Get your Selbstauskunft and note each entry.
  2. Sort proof of settlement (or ask the creditor for a clear confirmation).
  3. Send the application with exhibits to the responsible ZenVG — or check for free whether SchuldnerClear can prepare your Berlin/Brandenburg pack.

SchuldnerClear provides administrative document assembly based on published court requirements. Not legal advice, not representation, not a deletion guarantee — courts decide outcomes.
